Case study 1: Major translation project for the European Judicial Training Network

A large-volume project with multiple training materials, requiring an understanding of key terminology and familiarity with digital training formats.

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) develops training standards and curricula, coordinates judicial training exchanges and programmes, disseminates training expertise and promotes cooperation between EU judicial training institutions.

For this client, I was able to deliver a large project efficiently: on time and on budget.

Objectives

EJTN contacted me because they were looking for someone to translate their COPEN programme training materials from French into English. The materials consisted of multiple modules that encompassed training content delivered in different file formats.

The project consisted of well over 100,000 words and EJTN needed someone who could not only handle a project of this size, but who also had exactly the right subject matter expertise.

Solutions

Because of my background working in an international organisation that worked in the justice sector, I already had a thorough understanding of EU, civil and criminal law, and of the European judiciary. I also have many years of experience with educational materials, making me the perfect fit.

I submitted a proposal that met their budget and timescale requirements, the proposal was accepted and I got to work.

Benefits

The end result was a series of specialist translations that delivered both quality and reliability. The training materials could now be used by practitioners who did not speak French.

EJTN has called on me many times since this first project to translate further training materials, as well as other project reports. I have also offered bespoke services such as editing reports that have been written by speakers of other languages.

Feedback

‘The work you have done for us has fully fulfilled our expectations in terms of efficiency and diligence. The quality of the legal English translations of our COPEN training Modules for practitioners in the area of judicial cooperation in criminal matters meets high standards.’

Training Projects Manager, EJTN, Brussels.
